Steps followed in designing the "Opera House" for my final year of high school / NZ Year 13 TVC project.

Inspiration

The inspiration for the project was the Yeezy Foam Runner designed by Kanye West. One of my favorite artist!

Explorative 1

During our trip to the Turtle Bay in Hawaii, swimming with the turtles was an amazing experience. The pattern and shape of the turtle shell inspired me to incorporate it in the design. In the explorative pages, I explored the shape of a Yeezy foam runner by stretching, elongating experimenting with the shape.

Explorative 2

Concept 1

From using the toe end of the shoe I used the open holes and space to create abstract and wave type features in this design.

Concept 2

Simplyifing it more I clsoed off the open shapes and created a more hard rock shape using scale and playing along with the shape of a turtles back i used the same shape to create a roof for my design.

Concept 3

Completely disregarding the shoes structure I played with a rectangle-like shape and used the shoes engravings and carved shapes to create a stretched type look.

Development 1

From the Yeezy Foam Runner, I used the shoes sole to restructure the roof of the opra house. From this I selected a simple colour pallet and played around with shapes and textures.

Development 2

Further Developing the roof, I experimented with reorganising the layout of the floor plan.

Development 3

Once I had the desired shape I then spaced out the shapes and started adding a decking area for communities to engage.

Development 4

By using ink droplets from Copic markers I then used the shapes to design abstract features to add in front of the Oprea house to create an eye-catching feature to the exterior of the building.

Revit

Using Autodesk Revit I made my building.

the video on the left shows you the interior and exterior of the building.

Research

For the final presentation, I first researched the best way to present my design to ensure maximum impact given the audience will be visiting in person to see the presentation and explored using either PowerPoint, poster or a 3D model.

Concept

I then drew concepts on how the viewer would view my project so I can select the presentation option.

In the end, I chose to make a 3D model as I could capture all of the features that I wanted to showcase.

Development

In the developments page, I was designing the best approach to place the panel next to the 3D model. When developing the 3D model, I wanted to design a poster and a model so there is an information panel alongside the model.

Close-ups of my 3D model.

By using corrugated cardboard I showed the different textures of the building.

Using the laser cutter I cut out trees and mini figures of people to show the environment space and scale.
